Model Context Protocol (MCP)

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standardized protocol designed to extend VJSP’s capabilities by connecting to external tools and services. MCP servers provide additional tools and resources that empower VJSP to accomplish tasks beyond its built-in functionality—such as accessing databases, integrating custom APIs, and enabling specialized features.

MCP Documentation Structure

This documentation is divided into the following sections:

  • Using MCP in VJSP – A comprehensive guide to configuring, enabling, and managing MCP servers within VJSP, including server setup, tool approval, and troubleshooting.

  • What is MCP? – An explanation of the Model Context Protocol, its client-server architecture, and how it enables AI systems to interact with external tools.

  • STDIO and SSE Transports – A detailed comparison of local (STDIO) and remote (SSE) transport mechanisms, along with deployment considerations for each approach.

  • MCP and APIs – An analysis of the fundamental differences between MCP and REST APIs, explaining how they operate at different abstraction layers to support AI systems.
